Reopening Plan 8-13-2020

August 13, 2020

Dear Students, Parents, and Community members,

Last night the RSU #38 Board of Directors approved after much discussion our “Return to Learn” plans for the 2020 - 2021 school year.  What follows is a short district summary of the plan:

  • Our schools will be open at 8:00 am with in person instruction beginning at approximately 8:30 am and running until 1:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

  • All students in Pre-K thru 8th grade will have in-person instruction on those days.

    • Pre-K will attend 2 days a week from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.  Each group of students will attend either Monday, Tuesday OR Thursday, Friday.

  • Students in Grade 9 through 12 will be attending in-person instruction 2 days a week and will be working remotely 2 days a week.

  • Wednesday will be an independent work day for all students Kindergarten thru 12th grade.

A calendar change was approved as well.  The first student day will be Tuesday, September 8.  (The late starts at the High School have been eliminated for the year and the early release scheduled for September 16 has been eliminated as well.)

In preparing to reopen schools, we are looking to gather information through a short questionnaire.  The survey will be sent to families before the week is out from your child’s school(s). We respectfully ask you to respond as soon as possible.

All required DOE Health and Safety Practices will be in place to start the school year, i.e. masks are required, social distancing measures will be in place, proper cleaning and nursing protocols will be in place, and a daily student symptom screener will be in place.

We are looking forward to having your children return to school! If you have any questions please reach out to the school your child attends for further information.

Sincerely,

James Charette

Superintendent
